Teacher w/pre-school students

In  Powhatan County one of our greatest resources is our children.

We need to continue to provide our children with the best educational system that we can.

School buildings and budgets are necessary, but one of the most critical important factors in our education system is providing teachers and programs that teaches our children how to become the future leaders in tomorrows world.  We need to continue to provide the high level of instruction that we give now, and plan the future to the complete development of the student as he or she graduates and proceed onto the working world.  We need to continue to have a school system that plans to do just that and also not use county tax dollars in ways that are unnecessary.

Attracting New Businesses to hold down the tax burden on our Citizens

We need to make Powhatan County attractive to bring new businesses into the county.  It's time that our tax base is something more that Real Estate Taxes and Personal Property Tax bearing the load.  We need to increase our revenue, not our taxes on our citizens.

I feel that economic development is one of this new boards top priority.

We need to maintain and improve programs such as the "Disability and Elderly Tax Relief".

We need to try to stop the rise in Real Estate Taxes so our citizens both young and old can afford to live in Powhatan, and yet to provide the services that we need, fire, rescue, law enforcement, schools and other departments that are vital to our growth.

We need to seek ways to increase revenue instead of increasing taxes.

Continue to support Family Life.

Let us not lose focus on what Powhatan County is all about!

We need to preserve out open landscape.

We need to protect our hunting and fishing privileges that so many enjoy.

We need to continue to support our youth organizations to help in the overall development of our children, and preparing them to be tomorrow's leaders through our recreational program.
 
We need to look closely at the development of the proposed State Park, and preserving the "Historical Pride" that this county has. Through this development and preservation it will help in increasing tourism to the county.
